About

Welcome to my blog! Presumably you also share an interest in Bristol’s past and, hopefully, care for the city’s future.

To commemorate the 41st anniversary of the St Pauls disturbance (1980) and the 1st anniversary of the fall of the Colston Statue (2020), my blog intends to stimulate recognition for two of Bristol’s most significant historical events of Black popular protest. Blog entries will interrogate the history of these events which, in spite of their differences, are underpinned by several akin themes: law and order, race and activism.

This forum is an open and safe space which encourages your contributions. Through an open discourse we can build a better understanding of the past in relation to Bristol, Britain, and the wider world. Hopefully my blog will aid a better understanding of our present, which we can learn from to shape the future.

This website is for anyone who shares my love for Bristol's history and wants to learn

more about a small part of it: two histories of Black popular protest, their context and present day relevance. This history is both relevant and important, and together we can learn from it!

This website constitutes my creative output for my Practice-Based Dissertation in BA History at the University of Bristol. Please contact me if you have any thoughts, ideas or queries - I would love to hear from you. I would also really appreciate if you had a spare moment to fill out this feedback form.

On that note... happy reading!
